36 Hours in Glasgow

12 p.m. Shop for Scandinavian home goods and cozy Scottish knitwear.

Glasgow residents have a strong interest in sustainable shopping and buying secondhand items of various kinds. Hoos, located near the Botanic Gardens, offers stylish Scandinavian home goods. Meanwhile, the Glasgow Vintage Co., situated further down Great Western Road from Papercup, has a well-thought-out collection of secondhand Scottish knitwear as well as impressive coats and dresses from the 1970s. Up the hill on Otago Street, above Perch & Rest Coffee, Kelvin Apothecary sells a wide range of gifts, including handmade Scottish soaps and wooden laundry and cleaning tools. In the cobblestone Otago Lane, you’ll find the bustling Voltaire and Rousseau secondhand bookshop, with tall stacks of books leaning precariously. Unlike many shops in Glasgow, this particular store is not particularly welcoming to dogs because of its resident cat, BB, who keeps a watchful eye from his perch at the checkout counter.
